Suraj Sharma is an Indian actor who rose to acclaim with his performance as Pi Patel in his debut in the 2012 adventure drama film Life of Pi. Co-starring alongside Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, Tabu, Adil Hussain, and Gérard Depardieu, Suraj Sharma made his first theatrical film appearance by playing Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel, age 16/17, in the 2012 adventure drama film, Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name.

For his performance in Life of Pi, he won the Saturn Award for “Best Performance by a Younger Actor” and MTV Movie Award for “Best Scared-As-Shit Performance” while he was also nominated for BAFTA Rising Star Award, Critics’ Choice Movie Award for “Best Young Actor/Actress”, NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture”, and Empire Award for “Best Male Newcomer”.

When Suraj auditioned for the role in Life of Pi, he had no experience in acting. Also, he auditioned along with his brother.

He brought to life the character of Kanan Gill, Anu’s and Shashi’s husband, in the 2017 Hindi fantasy comedy film Phillauri. His co-stars for the project included Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, and Mehreen Kaur Pirzada.
